Cody has mentioned several time he wants to plant an apple tree. We have convinced him that a) he won't get to eat an apple before he goes off to college, and b) apple trees aren't the best choice for our Tucson climate. After Gene's suggestion, we have convinced Cody that a pomegranate tree is a good second option. Anyone opposed to us planting a pomegranate tree in some of the available garden space? I need to research best time of year to plant, but thought I would wait until we knew it was a go.

Sounds great to me - certainly trust you to do the research and plant something appropriate that will add to the community garden in a good way. Would an apple tree work at your cabin location? Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget that the garden is a temporary garden. It won't always be there unless the community purchases the property to make it permanent.
ReplyDeleteJust so we know. What would it cost for the community to purchase the property under current market conditions?
ReplyDeletePlanting a tree seems premature to me not only because of Justin's comment, but also that even if we were to buy the parcel, that it would need to fit into a long term plan for the garden space, since it would be such a permanent addition. I think a tree or trees would be very appropriate but that type(s) and placement need more thought to best integrate them and their effects on the space.
